Detex V40 EA CD 628, Hardwired Alarmed Rim Exit Device - Aluminum

The Detex V40 combines a Grade 1 panic exit device with a fully integrated hardwired alarm in a single unit. No separate alarm panel. No separate alarm housing on the wall. The alarm electronics are built into the pushpad body. When the pushpad is depressed on an armed door, the 100+ dB alarm sounds immediately. A remote alarm relay output signals any connected device: remote horn, strobe, security panel, or building management system. A bypass relay input allows any access control trigger (keypad, card reader, remote button) to silence the alarm for authorized users. The transformer and 9V battery backup are both included in the standard EA package.

The "EA" designation means Exit Alarm, Hardwired. The "CD" means Cylinder Dogging: a 1-1/8" mortise cylinder (sold separately) dogs the pushpad in the depressed position with a 1/8 turn for free-passage mode and arms or disarms the alarm. EA Standard Package: Everything Included

The EA standard package ships with more than the exit device body and pushpad. The 120V to 12VAC transformer powers the alarm from standard building current. The 9V battery backup maintains alarm function during power interruptions. A flexible 3-foot conduit loop with an end-cap connector neatly routes and protects the wiring through the door gap. Pushpad signage reading "Push to Open Alarm Will Sound" is included. A remote alarm relay output (Common, Normally Open, Normally Closed contacts) and a bypass alarm relay input (Normally Open contacts) provide the electrical interfaces for building security integration.

V40 EA vs. V40 EB: Hardwired vs. Battery

The V40 EA (this product) runs on hardwired 12V or 24V AC/DC power with 9V battery backup. It requires electrical wiring to the device location. The V40 EB runs entirely on battery power, no hardwired connection required, which simplifies installation but requires periodic battery replacement and monitoring. Choose EA for permanent, monitored installations where building power is available and battery maintenance is not preferred. Choose EB for locations where running power to the door is impractical or cost-prohibitive.

V40 vs. Detex Advantex 10 Series: Value vs. Super-Heavy Duty

The V40 is the Value Series: Grade 1, cost-effective, and suitable for standard commercial and institutional applications. The Detex Advantex 10 Series is super-heavy-duty, tested beyond 1,000,000 cycles, with PVD finish over stainless steel for high-abuse environments. Both carry the same ANSI certification. For most commercial exit doors the V40 EA CD delivers the specification at a lower price point. For environments with deliberate abuse, high cycling, or coastal conditions, the 10 Series is the correct upgrade.
