Electrified Mortise Locks

Displaying (of 49 products)

An electrified mortise lock combines the physical durability of a commercial Grade 1 mortise lockset with the remote access control capability of an integrated solenoid, motor, or electromechanical actuator. The lock body installs in the door edge the same way any mortise lock does, using a standard door prep. The electrical component sits inside the same housing and controls whether the outside lever is operable, providing access control at the opening without a separate reader-mounted electric strike or a separate powered latch device. American Locksets is an authorized dealer for Schlage, Sargent, Corbin Russwin, BEST, Falcon, Accentra Yale, and PDQ electrified mortise locks, with same-day shipping and free shipping on all orders over $300.

Electrified Mortise Locks: Fail Safe vs. Fail Secure, and Why the Distinction Matters

Every electric mortise lockset on this page operates in one of two modes, and the specifier must confirm the correct mode before ordering. In fail safe operation, applying power unlocks the outside lever. The lever is locked when power is absent. This configuration integrates naturally with fire alarm panels: when the alarm trips and the panel cuts power to the lock, the door releases and allows egress. Fail safe is the correct specification for stairwell doors, fire-rated corridor doors, lobby entries integrated with fire alarm control, and any ADA-required egress path.

In fail secure operation, the outside lever is locked when power is applied. Removing power releases the lever. This is the inverse logic and is correct for server rooms, pharmaceutical storage, cash rooms, and security zones where a power outage or alarm event should not create an unlocked opening. Ordering the wrong mode on a mortise electric lockset is a specification error that cannot be corrected in the field. Both modes are stocked at American Locksets across all major brands.

Sargent Electromechanical Mortise Locks: 8200 Series

The Sargent 8270 through 8273 electromechanical mortise locks are built on the 8200 Series Grade 1 platform, rated ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Grade 1 and UL listed for fire doors. All four models feature Ecoflex technology for low current draw and are compatible with standalone access control systems and fully networked PACS integration.

Schlage Electrified Mortise Locks: L9090 and L9095 Series

The Schlage L909x Series is the current generation electrified mortise lock built on the L Series Grade 1 mortise platform. It uses auto-detecting 12/24 VDC, continuous duty, and field-selectable fail safe or fail secure on the L9095. The series covers three distinct electrical configurations:

Corbin Russwin ML20900 Series Electrified Mortise Locksets

The Corbin Russwin ML20900 ECL Series combines the proven ML2000 Series mortise platform with remote electrical locking control. It uses the patented quick-reversible latchbolt and supports single-cylinder, double-cylinder, and no-cylinder configurations across fail safe and fail secure modes. Available in NSA lever trim in 626 Satin Chrome.

BEST 45H Electrified Mortise Lever Locks

The BEST 45HW7DEL Grade 1 Electrified Mortise Lever Lock, Fail Safe and 45HW7DEU Fail Secure are from the BEST 40H Series platform, Grade 1, with field-reversible handing and compatibility with BEST SFIC interchangeable core cylinders across 18 open keyways.

Accentra Yale 8890 and 8891 Electrified Mortise Locks

The Accentra Yale 8890FL Electrified Mortise Lever Lock, Fail Safe and 8891FL Fail Secure, 12/24V are Grade 1 electric mortise locksets built on the Yale 8800 Series mortise platform, compatible with standalone and PACS-integrated access control systems.

Falcon MA851 and PDQ MR199A Electrified Mortise Locks

The Falcon MA851 Storeroom Fail Safe Mortise Lock is the electrified version of the Falcon MA Series Grade 1 mortise platform, 12/24 VDC, with the same cold-formed steel case and breakaway spindle as the mechanical MA Series. The PDQ MR199A F Series Grade 1 Electrified Storeroom Mortise Lock is an extra heavy-duty electrified storeroom configuration specified for healthcare, government, and institutional applications requiring Grade 1 mortise hardware with access control integration.

Rofu 2960 Electromechanical Mortise Lock

The Rofu 2960 Electromechanical Mortise Lock is a 12/24 VDC fail safe unit designed for in-jamb or header installation on double swinging doors where standard shear locks are not compatible. It provides an entry-level electromechanical mortise option for lighter-duty commercial openings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is an electrified mortise lock?

An electrified mortise lock is a Grade 1 mortise lockset with an integrated solenoid or motor that electrically controls whether the outside lever is operable, enabling remote access control without a separate electric strike.

Q: What is the difference between fail safe and fail secure in an electric mortise lockset?

Fail safe unlocks when power is removed, allowing egress during a power outage or fire alarm. Fail secure locks when power is removed, keeping the opening secured during a power loss event.

Q: What voltage do electrified mortise locks operate on?

Most commercial electrified mortise locks operate on 12 or 24 VDC, with auto-detecting dual voltage capability on most Schlage and Sargent models. Confirm voltage with the access control panel specification before ordering.

Q: Can electrified mortise locks be integrated with PACS systems?

Yes. The Sargent 8270 series, Schlage L909x series, and Corbin Russwin ML20900 series are all compatible with leading physical access control systems. Integration capability varies by PACS provider.

Q: What is a double cylinder configuration on an electric mortise lockset?

A double cylinder electrified mortise lock has a key cylinder on both the inside and outside of the door, allowing emergency mechanical override from either side when electrical power is unavailable.

Q: Do electrified mortise locks require special door prep?

Most electrified mortise locks use a standard mortise door prep. A power transfer device (electrified hinge or power transfer loop) is required to route low-voltage power from the frame to the door.

Q: Are electrified mortise locks UL listed for fire doors?

Yes. The Sargent 8270 series, Schlage L Series, and Corbin Russwin ML20900 series are all UL listed for fire door applications. Confirm UL listing for the specific model before specifying on a fire-rated opening.
