About this item
The PHI Precision 2101 in 630 satin stainless steel is the exit-only rim exit device in the Apex 2000 Series 2100 wide stile platform ANSI A156.3 Grade 1, UL listed for panic hardware, investment cast steel chassis, 3/4-inch deadlocking stainless steel latchbolt, 10 million operational cycles, hex key dogging standard, and field reversible. American Locksets stocks the 2101 in multiple finishes and door sizes.
What PHI Precision Is and Where It Fits the Market
PHI Precision exit devices are manufactured by dormakaba, a global commercial door hardware manufacturer. The Apex 2000 Series is the product line healthcare and education facilities consistently specify when the requirement is a touchbar exit device that handles serious daily volume without maintenance cycles. The 2100 is the rim device within that series rim meaning the latchbolt mounts to a strike on the door frame, as opposed to vertical rod devices that run rod assemblies to top and bottom of the door.
The 2101 is the base model of the 2100 Series: rim, wide stile, exit-only function, cover plate prep on the outside. No outside trim, no outside lever, no outside cylinder, just a cover plate where trim would mount if a different function were specified. Correct specification for stairwell doors, service exits, loading dock exits, and any opening where exit-only egress is required with no outside access.
Precision Apex 2000 vs Apex 2800: What the Numbers Mean
The Apex 2000 and Apex 2800 are related but not the same line. The 2000 Series is the standard commercial platform. The 2100 model range within it covers rim devices specifically. The Precision 2800 Series is the concealed vertical rod line. If your spec calls for 2800 CVR, that's a separate product from the 2100 rim. On americanlocksets.com, both are stocked; the 2101 here is the rim device.
The "2100" in the model number tells you the chassis type (rim, wide stile). The "01" function suffix tells you the trim function: exit only, no outside trim, cover plate prep. Other 2100 functions follow the same chassis with different trim configurations: 2102 for dummy trim prep, 2103 for lever trim, 2105 for key-controls-thumbpiece, and so on. All can be field-converted between functions 01, 02, 03, 05, 08, 14, and 15 in the field.
Construction Details That Separate the Apex 2000
Ten million operational cycles is not the ANSI minimum. ANSI Grade 1 requires 500,000 cycles. The Apex 2000 tests to 10 million twenty times the standard. That number matters on a high-traffic healthcare or education building where the door sees 400 to 800 cycles daily. The investment cast steel chassis provides forced-entry resistance and eliminates the chassis flex that occurs in sheet metal device bodies under repeated impact. Few moving parts mean no maintenance kit requirements in normal service life. Sound dampeners on both the depression and return stroke reduce operational noise relevant in hospital corridors and classroom buildings where metal-on-metal impact noise is a specification concern.
The universal active case and end cap mounting holes make the 2101 a direct retrofit for other manufacturers' rim devices without frame modification.
