The Precision 2803 Apex is a concealed vertical rod (CVR) exit device from PHI Precision Hardware's 2800 Series, built for wide stile metal single and double door applications in commercial, healthcare, educational, and institutional buildings. The 2803 carries ANSI Function 03 (key retracts latchbolt), the standard keyed entry function that allows exterior access by rim cylinder key while maintaining free panic egress from the interior at all times. ANSI/BHMA A156.3 Grade 1 certified. UL listed for panic and fire exit hardware. Conforms to UL10C and UBC 7-2 positive pressure testing requirements.

Precision CVR Exit Device: Concealed Vertical Rod, Wide Stile

Concealed vertical rod devices secure the door at two points, the top and bottom of the door, without visible surface-mounted rods. The vertical rods and latching mechanisms run inside the door stile, keeping the door face clean and protecting the rod mechanism from tampering and corrosion. The 2803 is the wide stile version of the Apex CVR line, designed for hollow metal and metal doors with standard wide stile widths. Unlike rim exit devices that latch only at the strike in the door frame, the CVR device engages the door jamb or floor at the bottom in addition to the head at the top, providing two-point latching security that resists door spreading attacks.

The lock stile assembly uses an investment cast steel chassis, zinc dichromated. The cover, touchbar, device channel, lock side and hinge side filler, and end caps are heavy wrought brass, bronze, or stainless steel depending on finish. 628 aluminum finish devices include aluminum, brass, bronze, and stainless steel components.

• Door Width: 36 inch (for 2-7 to 3-0 wide doors), 48 inch (for 3-1 to 4-0 wide doors)

• Door Thickness: 1-3/4 inch to 2-1/4 inch standard. Consult factory for thicker doors

• Door Height: 6-8 to 8-0 standard. 8-1 to 10-0 available

• Door Application: All types of single and double metal door applications

• Latchbolt: Stainless steel, deadlocking, 3/4 inch throw

• Dogging: 1/4-turn hex key dogging standard. Not available on fire-rated versions

• Handing: Reversible. Can be installed on left-hand or right-hand doors

• Cylinder: Rim type for 03 function. Not furnished standard. Specify when required

Electric and Monitoring Options

The 2803 supports Electric Latch Retraction (ELR) for access control integration. ELR uses continuous duty solenoids to retract the top and bottom latchbolts remotely for momentary unlatching or continuous dogging. Compatible with card readers, push buttons, automatic door operators, toggle/key switches, and fire alarm systems. Touchbar monitoring switches are available in SPDT (TS) and DPDT (TDS) configurations for interface with access control panels. Latch status monitoring (LS, SPDT) is also available for latch position confirmation.

The fire-rated version of this device is the FL2803, which ships with all required fire hardware and carries the UL fire exit listing. If the opening is fire-rated, the FL2803 must be specified.
