Von Duprin 98EO / 99EO Rim Panic Exit Device

The Von Duprin 98EO and 99EO are wide-stile heavy-duty rim panic exit devices in the 98/99 Series, the Allegion platform specified by architects on most higher education, K-12 school, hospital, hospitality, and government building openings in North America. EO stands for Exit Only, meaning the device pushes from the inside but has no outside trim (use it on doors that need free egress with no outside re-entry, or pair it with a separate trim from the 98/99 Series Trims family for outside lever or pull access). Modular design lets you upgrade the same body to add electrified options, request-to-exit switches, alarm kits, or trims as the facility's needs change. 98 vs 99: Smooth Case vs Grooved Case

The mechanical guts of the 98EO and 99EO are identical. The only difference is aesthetic: the 98 device has a smooth mechanism case and the 99 device has a grooved mechanism case. Most architects spec the 99 grooved-case version as the default for new construction because the grooved profile is the recognizable Von Duprin look that matches the existing hardware schedule on most institutional openings. Spec the 98 smooth case when the door schedule calls for a cleaner contemporary aesthetic or when matching existing 98 series hardware on a building. Two finishes are 98-only: Satin Stainless Steel US32D (630) and Satin Nickel US15 (619).

The "EO" exit-only configuration is correct when the opening is exit only (stairwell discharge, emergency-only doors) or when the outside trim will be specified separately.
