Von Duprin RX-330 / RX-350 Dummy Touch Bar devices - Request to Exit Switch

The Von Duprin RX-330 and RX-350 are dummy touch bar devices with a built-in request to exit (REX) switch, designed as companion units for Von Duprin's 33A, 35A, 98, and 99 series exit devices on the inactive leaf of double door openings. The push bar on each unit is non-latching and non-functional in terms of releasing any hardware. What makes the RX version distinct from the standard 330/350 dummy is the integrated SPDT (single pole double throw) monitoring switch that fires a signal to an access control panel or alarm system whenever the push bar is depressed.

RX-330 vs. RX-350: The Surface Difference

The 330 and 350 are mechanically identical. The difference is the outer case surface. The RX-330 has a ridged (grooved) surface case, matching the 33A series exit device outer case profile. The RX-350 has a smooth surface case, matching the 35A series profile. When specifying a dummy companion device for a double door opening, the dummy bar surface must match the active device surface. A 33A active device on the active leaf pairs with an RX-330 on the inactive leaf. A 35A pairs with an RX-350. Mismatching surfaces creates a visible profile mismatch on a paired set of doors.

What the Request to Exit Switch Does

The internal SPDT switch is a signaling switch only. It does not control a load and must not be wired to directly power any device. It sends a signal to an access control panel, security console, or alarm system at the moment the push bar is depressed, indicating an authorized exit event is in progress. This inhibits the door alarm or magnetic lock release from triggering an alert during a legitimate exit, while still logging the event. The RX2 variant uses two RX switches for dual-switch monitoring applications.

The switch signal is the correct specification for facilities running alarm systems on secondary exit doors, stairwell access points, loading dock doors, and any opening where the building security system needs to differentiate between authorized egress and unauthorized door opening.

Companion Device Application on Double Door Openings

The 330 and 350 dummy devices are the factory-specified companion units for Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98, and 99 series active exit devices. On a double door opening, one leaf carries the active exit device that operates the latchbolt. The other leaf (inactive leaf) uses a dummy push bar for visual and tactile consistency. Without a dummy bar on the inactive leaf, the door pair has a full push bar on one side and nothing on the other, which creates a confusing user experience and a hardware schedule gap. The RX-330 and RX-350 fill the inactive leaf with a matching push bar that also integrates into the access control or alarm system through the REX switch.
