What the Falcon 25 Series Is and Who It's Built For

The Falcon 25 Series is the wide stile counterpart to the narrow stile 24 Series. Where the 24 is designed for aluminum storefront doors with stiles as narrow as 1-3/4 inches, the 25 is built for standard commercial hollow metal and wood doors with wider stiles, typically 4-1/2 inches minimum. If you're specifying exit hardware for office building corridors, school hallways, hospital fire doors, stairwells, or commercial perimeter entries on hollow metal frames, the 25 Series is the product family to work from.

Construction is extruded aluminum with heavy wrought and sintered metal working parts. Half-turn hex dogging is standard - no threaded dogging components to wear out in high-cycle openings. All mounting screws are concealed. The series is ANSI/BHMA A156.3 Grade 1 certified with a 10-year warranty, and carries UL listings for panic hardware on standard devices and UL 10C fire listings on the fire-rated F25 prefix models.

Falcon 25 Series Exit Device Types

With 37 products across the series, the catalog splits cleanly into device types. The device type is always the right starting point before selecting function, trim, or electrification.

25R - Rim Exit Device. Single-point latching with a rim latch that projects into a surface-mounted strike on the frame. The correct specification for single doors and any application where a one-point latch meets the project requirement. Stainless steel latch with 3/4-inch throw. Available with and without trim.

25V - Surface Vertical Rod Exit Device. Two-point latching with surface-applied rods running to top and bottom strikes. Top latch is stainless steel with 3/4-inch throw; bottom bolt has 1/2-inch throw. Deadlocking latchbolt is standard in the top latch. Used on paired doors and high-traffic single doors where two-point engagement is required. Rods are accessible for field adjustment.

25C - Concealed Vertical Rod Exit Device. Same two-point latching as the 25V but with rods run inside the door stile. The door face stays clean with no exposed hardware. Concealed rod devices require more precise installation but produce a significantly cleaner finished appearance. Specify handing on the concealed rod versions - unlike the rim and surface VR, the 25C is not fully field-reversible on all configurations.

25M - Mortise Exit Device. The only mortise format in the 25 Series. A mortise lock case is installed inside the door, and the exit device push bar operates the latch mechanically. Used on heavy-duty perimeter doors where the security and durability of a mortise body is required alongside panic egress. Minimum 4-1/2-inch stile. Note: the MEL motorized electric latch retraction option is not available on the 25M or F-25M - only on rim and vertical rod configurations.

MEL Motorized Electric Latch Retraction: What It Is and When to Specify It

MEL stands for Motorized Electric Latch Retraction and it's one of the most practical electrification options in the Falcon 25 catalog. Instead of a solenoid that draws high current and produces an audible click on energization, the MEL uses a motor-driven mechanism that retracts the latchbolt quietly and draws significantly less power - inrush current is 1.0 amp, which allows longer wire runs and compatibility with standard Schlage PS900 series power supplies without additional hardware.

Practically, MEL converts an exit door to push-pull operation when energized. It can be triggered momentarily by a credential reader for a controlled entry event, or held energized for extended periods as an electronic alternative to mechanical dogging - useful on doors that need to operate in free-swing mode during business hours but re-latch after hours. Doors with automatic operators also commonly use MEL for coordinated open and latch retraction.

The MEL is available as a factory-installed option or as a retrofit conversion kit for existing mechanical Falcon 24 and 25 Series devices in the field. The modular design includes on-board diagnostic LEDs for installation and troubleshooting. MEL is fail-secure only - fail-safe motorized latch retraction is not available on this product. On a fire-rated door assembly, fail-secure is the required specification regardless.

Falcon 25 Series Trim Codes Decoded

The model numbers throughout this catalog carry suffix codes that specify the outside trim configuration. These abbreviations are consistent across the full 25 Series:

EO - Exit Only. No outside hardware. Interior push bar only. For secondary exits and fire stairs where re-entry is not needed through this door.

L - Lever trim (510L lever trim assembly). Available with Dane or Quantum lever styles. Provides keyed entry from outside with the lever operating the retracted latch.

TP - Thumb piece trim (512TP). Thumb piece trim instead of a lever.

BE - Blank Escutcheon. Trim plate installed outside with no active entry hardware.

DT - Dummy Trim. Outside trim that provides the appearance of entry hardware without a functional entry mechanism.

NL - Night Latch function on the outside cylinder. Key operation retracts the latchbolt for that entry.

Falcon 25 Series Parts List and Catalog Documentation

The two most common reasons people search for the Falcon 25 Series parts list or catalog are field service calls on installed devices and specification work on new projects. Allegion publishes installation instructions and parts documentation in their technical resource library at allegion.com. We stock Falcon parts across the 25 Series and can confirm part numbers and availability before a service visit.

For new project specification, the full Falcon 24/25 Series catalog (document 106199) covers every configuration, trim option, finish, sizing chart, and electric interface available in the family. We can confirm in-stock configurations and lead times on made-to-order specifications before your order is placed.
