Falcon T411 Grade 1 Asylum Cylindrical Lock

The Falcon T411 is the asylum function in the T Series Grade 1 cylindrical lock line. The function is ANSI F87, and the defining characteristic is this: neither lever operates the latch. Both the inside lever and the outside lever are permanently inoperable. The latch bolt can only be retracted by inserting a key into the cylinder on either side and turning it. No lever, no thumbturn, no push-button. Key only, from either direction, every time.

This function is specified in psychiatric hospitals, mental health residential facilities, secure behavioral health units, detention and correctional facilities, and any setting where occupants should not be able to open doors independently without staff authorization. When the door closes, the deadlocking latch engages automatically. The door cannot be opened from either side until staff use a key. The lever hardware is present on the door for grip and appearance, but it has no mechanical connection to the latch mechanism in the F87 configuration.

How ANSI F87 Differs from Related Functions

Three T Series functions are commonly compared when specifying secure institutional environments.

The T581 (ANSI F86 Storeroom) has an outside lever that is always locked and always requires a key for outside entry. The inside lever remains free for egress at all times. This is not an asylum lock: occupants inside can always exit on their own.

The T411 (ANSI F87 Asylum, this product) removes lever function from both sides. Neither occupant nor corridor staff can operate the latch without a key. Both directions require key operation. This is the highest-restriction cylindrical lever lock in the T Series.

The T381 (ANSI F88 Classroom Security) is a different application: the inside key controls the outside lever lockout. That function is specifically for school lockdown scenarios where a teacher needs to lock out the corridor quickly. It is not an asylum function.

If the specification requires that occupants cannot exit without staff using a key, the T411 is the correct function.

T411 Lever Styles and Finishes

Three lever styles are available: Avalon (A), Dane (D), and Quantum (Q). Five finishes are available across all three lever styles: 626 Satin Chrome, 625 Bright Chrome, 605 Bright Brass, 613 Oil Rubbed Bronze, and 619 Satin Nickel.
