Falcon T571 Grade 1 Dormitory/Corridor Cylindrical Lock

The Falcon T571 is the dormitory/corridor function in the T Series Grade 1 cylindrical lock line. The function is ANSI F90, and it has a specific push button mechanism that's built directly into the inside lever, not mounted on the rose or trim plate like the T501 or T521. When someone inside the room presses the button on the inside lever, the outside lever locks. A key inserted into the outside lever from the corridor unlocks the outside lever and simultaneously releases the button. The door returns to normal passage after key entry.

Two things also release the button without a key. When the door closes, the push button releases automatically. When an occupant inside turns the inside lever for egress, the button releases simultaneously. This auto-release on door close is the operational behavior that defines the dormitory function: the occupant can press the button as they leave, pull the door shut, and the button releases when the door contacts the frame. The room is unlocked for the next authorized person with a key without any staff reset required.

This is why the function is called dormitory. In student housing, hotel/motel rooms, and multi-family residential corridors, occupants lock the room as they leave by pressing the button in the inside lever on their way out. T571 Dormitory vs T581 Storeroom: Important Distinction

Both the T571 and T581 are often specified on the same multi-family or institutional project, but they serve different openings.

The T571 (ANSI F90 Dormitory/Corridor) has a push button in the inside lever that locks the outside lever. The button releases on door close. Key from outside releases the button and restores normal operation. Inside lever is always free. Used for residential unit doors, hotel guest room doors, and residential corridor doors where occupants lock from inside and the door resets on exit.

The T581 (ANSI F86 Storeroom) is a completely different configuration: the outside lever is always locked. It does not operate the latch under any circumstances. Entry from outside always requires a key, every single time. There is no button, no inside lockout, and no auto-release. The inside lever is always free for egress. Used for storage rooms, mechanical rooms, server rooms, and any opening where outside lever access should never be free regardless of inside occupant activity.

Specifiers searching "falcon storeroom lock" need the T581, not the T571. The T571 dormitory function is for occupied residential-type rooms. The T581 storeroom function is for unoccupied utility and secure storage spaces.
