Falcon T521 Grade 1 Office Cylindrical Lock

The Falcon T521 is the office function in the T Series Grade 1 cylindrical lock line. The function is ANSI F81, and it has a specific behavior that separates it from both the T501 (Entry) and T511 (Entry/Office): when the turn button on the inside is engaged and a key is used from outside to enter, the outside lever does not unlock. The key enters the space. But the outside lever stays locked. The only way to return the door to normal unlocked operation is for someone inside to manually turn the button to the off position.

This is the office function. The occupant inside has complete control over the door state at all times. A maintenance crew can use a master key to enter. A manager with a key can enter. But neither action resets the lock. When the occupant closes the door to work undisturbed, the corridor stays locked until they decide otherwise. Inside lever is always free for immediate egress.

This differs from the T501 (Entry, ANSI F82) where a key from outside releases the push button automatically. It differs from the T511 (Entry/Office, ANSI F109) where a single press releases on key entry but a press-and-turn creates a maintained state. The T521 button never releases on key entry. Pressure Release Lever Technology

The T521 includes Falcon's Pressure Release feature. When the outside lever is locked, it still rotates freely up and down. It does not operate the latch and it does not resist forced rotation. If someone in the corridor forces the lever, the lever moves without transferring that force into the internal lock mechanism. This prevents damage to internal components from forced entry attempts or accidental hard presses against a locked lever. The lever feels free but has no mechanical connection to the latch in the locked state.

Combined with compression springs in the spring cage that prevent lever sag over years of daily use, the T Series cylindrical body is built for institutional environments where locks take consistent heavy use.

T521 vs T501 vs T511: Choosing the Right Entry Function

On many hardware schedules, specifiers see three similar-sounding entry lever locks and need to match the right function to the right opening.

T501 (ANSI F82 Entry): Push button. Lock resets when the key is used from outside. The most common entry lock. Used for standard commercial entrances where the outside lever should unlock after each key entry event.

T511 (ANSI F109 Entry/Office): Two-mode push button. Single press resets on key entry. Press-and-turn creates a maintained lock that key entry does not reset. Used for offices that need occasional maintained lockout with normal reset most of the time.

T521 (ANSI F81 Office, this product): Turn button. Key entry never resets the button. Only manual inside operation unlocks. Used for private offices, executive suites, and any opening where the occupant must retain full control of the locked state regardless of key entry events.
