Falcon T581 Storeroom Lock: ANSI Function F86 Explained

The T581 is the Falcon T Series storeroom function, ANSI F86. The outside lever is always fixed and inoperative. It cannot be turned under any circumstance except key operation. The key in the cylinder outside retracts the deadlocking latchbolt for entry. The inside lever is always free for immediate egress, regardless of the exterior lock state.

The Pressure Release lever feature is standard on all T Series locks. When the outside lever is locked and someone applies force to it, the lever rotates freely downward without operating the latch and without transmitting torque to the lock chassis. This prevents mechanical damage to internal components from lever-forcing attacks, a failure mode that terminates the service life of most storeroom cylindrical locks well before their rated cycle life.

Heavy-duty compression springs behind the rose on both sides provide consistent lever return and have virtually eliminated lever sag, which was a known weakness in earlier T Series models. Inside levers are attached by an Allen-head set screw, which prevents unauthorized removal or tampering from the interior face.
