Falcon W511 Entry/Office Lock: Two Locking Modes in One Function

The W511 is ANSI Function F109, which provides two distinct exterior locking behaviors through the same push button mechanism:

Turn and push button locking: Pushing and turning the inside button simultaneously locks the outside lever, which then requires a key to unlock from the outside. The outside lever remains locked until the button is manually unlocked from the inside by rotating it back, or a key is used from the outside. This is the mode used when locking a room with the occupant inside, such as locking an office at the end of the day before leaving.

Push button locking: Pushing the inside button without turning it locks the outside lever until the door is opened or until the button is manually released, or a key is used from the outside. The inside lever always retracts the latchbolt freely and releases the button at the same time.

This is an important distinction from the W561 classroom function. On the W511, the outside lever can be locked either temporarily by push button or maintained until key or manual release. On the W561 classroom function, locking and unlocking is controlled by key operation from the outside only. The W511 is correct when a combination of key-controlled locking and inside push-button locking is needed.
