Falcon W561 Grade 2 Classroom Lock

The Falcon W561 is the classroom function in the Falcon W Series Grade 2 cylindrical lock line. The function is ANSI F84: the outside lever is locked and unlocked by a key inserted into the outside lever cylinder from the corridor. Inside lever is always free for egress at all times. Deadlocking latch bolt engages when the door closes. This is the standard classroom lock specification for K-12 schools, university buildings, and institutional facilities where after-hours room security and corridor-controlled access are the requirements and Grade 1 is not specifically called for on the hardware schedule.

The W Series is Falcon's Grade 2 value-tier cylindrical lock line. Heavy wrought brass or bronze roses, 3-5/8" diameter, through-bolted over steel rose inserts. Solid pressure-cast zinc levers with no inserts. Two lever styles: Dane (D) and Quantum (Q). Six finishes including US10B Oil Rubbed Bronze (613), which is one of the more specified dark finishes on institutional wood and metal doors. Schlage C keyway is available in addition to the standard Falcon G keyway, which makes the W561 compatible with existing Schlage C master key systems without requiring a separate cylinder purchase. IC cylinders are also available for facilities running BEST-compatible interchangeable core programs.

US10B Finish: What It Means and When to Specify It

US10B is the BHMA/ANSI standard finish code for Dark, Oxidized, Oil Rubbed Bronze, also called satin dark bronze or oiled bronze. On the W561, this finish is available as option 613 (Oil Rubbed Bronze). US10B is widely specified on older institutional buildings where dark bronze hardware matches existing architectural trim, on wood-dominant interior environments where a warm bronze tone is preferred, and on doors where a non-reflective dark finish reduces hardware visibility in low-contrast design schemes. The W561 in 613 (US10B) is the correct order for that finish specification.

W561 vs T561: Classroom Lock Grade Selection

The Falcon T561 is the Grade 1 version of the same ANSI F84 classroom function from the T Series. Both lock the outside lever via corridor key. Both have always-free inside lever egress. Both are UL 3-hour A label fire rated.

The W561 (Grade 2) is for standard commercial and institutional applications where the door thickness is 1-3/8" to 1-3/4" and the budget specification doesn't require Grade 1. The T561 (Grade 1) has a 1-3/4" to 2-1/8" door thickness range, heavier internal construction, and Grade 1 ANSI certification required for government, military, and specifications that explicitly call for Series 4000 Grade 1 hardware.

W Series Functions: W511, W561, W581 in Context

The three W Series functions most commonly compared on commercial and institutional hardware schedules are the W511, W561, and W581.

The W511 (ANSI F109 Entry/Office) is the two-mode push button entry lock for office entrance doors where inside staff controls outside lever access and wants an optional maintained lock mode.

The W561 (ANSI F84 Classroom, this product) is for classroom and institutional room doors where corridor key control of the outside lever is the specification requirement.
