About this item
The Accentra 7100F is a fire rated rim exit device from the 7000 series, now branded as Accentra after ASSA ABLOY transitioned the Yale Commercial product line. If you've been searching "yale 7100f" or "7100f" this is the same product. The device numbers, specifications, manufacturing, and performance haven't changed. Orders may ship in either Yale or Accentra packaging depending on current inventory. The 36-inch version covers doors 30 to 36 inches wide and requires no cutting on a 36-inch door.
What the F Suffix Means: Fire vs Non-Fire
The F in 7100F designates the fire-rated version. That's not just a UL listing it changes how the device is configured. Fire-rated exit devices cannot be dogged. The mechanical dogging capability that lets you hold the push bar in the depressed position (so the door swings freely without needing to push the bar) is not available on the 7100F. Fire code requires the door to latch every time it closes, and dogging defeats that. The 7100F ships less dogging as standard.
The 7100F is UL and cUL listed for use on fire doors with a rating up to and including 3 hours. On pairs of doors with a fire-rated mullion, the 3-hour rating extends to the pair. If your project has a non-fire-rated opening where you want dogging capability, the 7100 (no F) is the version for that but it doesn't carry the fire listing.
Exit Only Outside Trim Is Separate
The 7100F ships as exit only. There's no outside trim, no lever, no cylinder on the pull side. Anyone inside can push the bar and exit. From outside, the door can't be operated without adding separate outside trim. Accentra makes compatible trim for the 7100F series the 620F Series Escutcheon and 540F Series Rose Trim are both compatible options for applications where keyed exterior access is part of the design. Those trim pieces are ordered separately and specified by function (passage, entrance, storeroom, etc.).
The SquareBolt Latchbolt
The 7100 series features Accentra's SquareBolt latch a patented latch bolt design that provides improved pull-side resistance compared to standard rounded latch bolts. The squared geometry resists the parting motion of a door being forced from outside. The latchbolt is 3/4-inch throw, stainless steel, deadlocking.
MELR Option on the 7100 Series
If you've been searching "accentra melr" and landed here, the 7100F platform supports Motorized Electric Latch Retraction (MELR) as an option that's the 7100MELR (non-fire) and 7100FMELR (fire rated) variants. MELR allows the latchbolt to be retracted electronically from a remote location via access control panels, automatic door operators, fire alarm interfaces, or hands-free actuators while always allowing mechanical push bar egress from inside. The device remains retracted while energized and returns to self-latching mechanical mode when de-energized. If your project requires electric latch retraction on a fire door, contact American Locksets for the 7100FMELR configuration.
