Yale 7150 SquareBolt: What Makes It Different from a Standard Rim Exit Device

The standard rim exit device uses a deadlocking curved latchbolt to hold the door closed. A latchbolt is inherently rounded and can be defeated by shimming, credit carding, prying with a flat tool, or sustained door rattling that allows the latch to walk off the strike roller over time.

The Yale 7150 replaces this with the patented SquareBolt deadbolt. The SquareBolt is a square-profile bolt that locks into the roller strike with a positive mechanical engagement. When the door closes, the SquareBolt seats into the strike and deadlocks in position. The flat-sided geometry physically resists the shimming and prying techniques that defeat curved latchbolts. Door rattling and shaking cannot work the SquareBolt off the strike the way they can with a standard latchbolt. Credit cards, crowbars, and push-pull forcing are all resisted by the SquareBolt's geometry and the roller strike's positive locking plate.
